And another ten days pass

I’ve been sluggish.  Irritable.  Tired.  Sick.  and Lazy.

After my PR in the 5k on the 2nd, I knew I would be taking a few days off to rest.  As last week wore on, I trapped myself.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, life (and laziness) got in the way and I didn’t run.  On Thursday, I had my workout at Equivita and wanted to save my legs for our big Friday/Saturday event coming up.

I decided (at very nearly the last minute) to enter a team into the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  We coordinated with about ten of our friends to help out with the eighteen hour relay, and set out to have a good time.

When all was said and done, I did three shifts and ended up with thirteen miles covered in about 2 hours and 45 minutes.  I walked about half of the time, and ran during my midnight and 8 AM shifts.  It was a fun event, and we raised a little money for a good cause.  Next year, we’ll have things organized a little earlier and try to raise even more money (so be on the lookout for me soliciting to you!).

I only managed about an hour and a half of sleep on Friday night / Saturday morning, so most of the rest of the weekend was spent recovering.  I made Monday a rest day, and Tuesday night I went for a 2.5 mile walk with my wife (with a pit stop at Dairy Queen, of course) with the intention of resuming my running on Wednesday morning.  I woke up Wednesday with a scratchy throat and decided not to run.  I tried to drown my cold with large amounts of water on Wednesday, and by game time for softball that night I felt pretty good.  But when I woke up on Thursday morning, I was officially sick.  I went to work, but was home by noon.  Today I feel better, but I still don’t think I’ll run tonight.

My overall weekly mileage has been okay the last two weeks (to build my base for the half-marathon training), but I’ve only been out a handful of times.  I’m ready to resume my routine as soon as my body agrees.  Until then, I’m stuck thinking about running.  I hope to be back very soon.
